Conservative dental treatments in Poland
Conservative dentistry
Tooth preservation or conservative dentistry is understood as dental treatment that is intended to preserve teeth. These include professional tooth cleaning, filling therapy for caries and root canal treatment. The conservative dental treatments are preferred whenever possible at our dental practice in Wroclaw.
Fillings
The location and extent of the decay, cost of filling material, patients’ insurance coverage and your dentist’s recommendation assist in determining the type of filling that will best address your needs.
Advantages of tooth-colored composite fillings are:
1. Aesthetics – the color of the composites can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth; is particularly well suited for use in front teeth or visible parts of teeth
2. Bonding to tooth structure – composite fillings actually chemically bond to tooth structure, providing further support to the tooth
3. Versatility in uses – in addition to use as a filling material for decay, composite fillings can also be used to repair chipped, broken or worn teeth
4. Tooth-sparing preparation – sometimes less tooth structure needs to be removed compared with amalgams when removing decay and preparing for the filling
Inlays
The dental inlay restores the chewing surface of the tooth. This type of restoration used to repair rear teeth with mild to moderate decay or cracked and fractured teeth that are not damaged enough for a porcelain crown.
Firstly, the dentist creates an impression of the tooth and send it to the laboratory, where the dental inlay will be made, using the specifications of the tooth that needs restoration. The porcelain the laboratory uses to create the dental inlay, will match the shade of the patient’s teeth.
Root Canal Treatment
Endometer
Root canal treatment is a sequence of dental surgical procedures carried out to eliminate the infected blood vessels and nerves (known as the pulp) in a tooth?s root canal system and isolate the decontaminated root filling from further bacterial infection with a filling. The pulp can become infected through tooth decay, leaking fillings, periodontal disease or injury and if not treated will very often lead to an abscess. The most noticeable symptoms of an abscess are a constant dull to severe pain and sensitivity when biting pressure is applied and/or a fistula. If root canal treatment is not carried out, the infection can spread and the tooth will need to be extracted.
First the dentist cleans and disinfects the root/s and places a medicinal filling. In most cases to help ensure the success of the treatment, your dentist will usually allow a healing period before he removes the gutta percha temporary filling then cleans the area again before the root is closed with either a permanent cement filling or more often, a crown.
In many cases the infection in the bone tissue at the apex of the root of an infected tooth will heal naturally however medication can also be administered when necessary.
Root canal treatment is a dental procedure carried out under local anesthetic. The treatment should not be painful and certainly no more unpleasant than having a filling.
Professional teeth cleaning
Professional dental cleaning is the most effective and the safest method of maintaining healthy and beautiful teeth – for a lifetime.
Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling and tooth polishing and debridement if too much tartar has accumulated.
This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.
Bleaching (Tooth whitening)
Power or light-accelerated bleaching uses light energy which is intended to accelerate the process of bleaching.
The dentist will initially spread a peroxide based gel on the patients teeth. The gel will be left on the teeth for about 15 or 20 minutes. Afterwards, the dentist will use a lamp to hasten the whitening course by stimulating minerals within the gel that is placed on the teeth.
People prefer this method because its relatively fast, it only needs to be done once, and there are very clear effects.
Use of light during bleaching increases the risk of tooth sensitivity and may not be any more effective than bleaching without light when high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide are used.
